5 Ways to Style Spring Flowers

Fragrant hyacinths, bunches of sunny mimosa and the delicate scent of creamy white narcissi herald the joyful news that Spring is finally here.

A visit to the flower market or local florist is pure joy at this time of year as there is so much choice.

Here are 5 ways I love to style my spring blooms whether I'm preparing a breakfast launch, a lunch with girlfriends or cheering up a corner of the house that needs a ray of Spring sunshine.

BRING OUT YOUR BUDVASES  - whether dotted around a breakfast or lunch table or placed next to the bed, budvases filled with narcissi, fresia or softly fragrant paper whites are as uplifting as a spritz of a favourite eau de cologne. Keep the colour palate simple for maximum impact. Yellow, lime green and whites are favourites of mine when I'm using my teal budvases for a fresh spring palette.

TREAT YOURSELF TO A BUNCH OF MIMOSA - one of the joys of walking past a bunch of mimosa is its powdery, honey like scent. The King loves it and included it in the Highgrove Bouquet fragrance he created in collaboration with Penhaligon's.
I love a large bunch of it in one of my pitchers for a showstopper on an alfresco lunch table or placed in a hallway.
DECORATE YOUR MANTLEPIECE - you don't have to spend a fortune here. Even a simple supermarket bouquet can be deconstructed and de-canted into budvases for a whimsical airy display. This is a great trick I learnt for making cheaper flowers look more expensive.

HAND-TIE SMALL SPRING POSIES  - hyacinths and fresia are readily available at this time of year and can be mixed with pale blue muscari maybe from your garden or even snowdrops for a beautiful , small hand-tied posy.  After decorating a lunch table, you can deploy it to your  your bedside table or desk for a fragrant uplift.

INDULGE IN DELPHINIUMS - a summer blooming flower for most of us in the UK, but flower markets have started importing these gorgeous tall blooms from early Spring. Hard to beat in my cobalt blue pitcher vase. Picture perfect even if I do say so myself!

Happy March!

I love planting dahlias now  to enjoy their beautiful blousy blooms later this summer. This new 'Cafe Au Lait' collection from Sarah Raven is gorgeous with it's large pale pink flowers which fade down to creamy whites and apricot.

The King has collaborated with  Penhaligon's to create a beautiful, Eau de Parfum called Highgrove Bouquet. The brief was to re-create the scent of opening his windows at Highgrove and smelling the silver lime blossom trees that line the driveway. There is also powdery mimosa nestled in here too.

Makeup artist Gucci Westman's new Sun Tone Bronzing Drops  create perfect non-shimmery, natural looking sunkissed skin without the sun. Applied with the fingers, you can wear it alone as a tinted moisturiser or patted on over foundation instead of a bronzer. As expected from this brand, it's exquisite and so natural looking.

I'm loving my new stripey polo jumper from my latest DB X Wyse collection from Wyse London. It's made from 100% merino wool and I adore this jade green and French blue colourway. Love the slouchy fit which is relaxing but smart enough for a meeting and it makes a great travel outfit.

I can't wait to see Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing which is on at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane until April 5th. It not only stars Tom Hiddleston alongside Hayley Atwell but also my dear friend Tim Steed.  The reviews have been great. Make sure to book now as tickets are almost sold out.
