Mix and Match your Tablescapes

I love mixing and matching colour and patterns on my tablescapes. It makes for such a fun way to bring new energy and a point of difference, invigorating pieces you already own. The key is to think about colour and texture. Here’s how I build my tablescape with ease.

COLOUR - The key for me is keeping things to one or two colours or tones, and build from there. You might choose to layer up different tones of green for example or plat with something simple like blue and white. Or you might want to keep things pure and white; as with my vellum pieces and add colour with table linen. I’ve added my blue tie-dye stripes above and then layered a set of navy textured place mats underneath to create a contemporary tablescape.

FLOWERS - Choosing the right flowers to coordinate is another way to add flair. During the summer heat in ibiza, I have to get creative with my flowers. I might be lucky and have my bougainvillea in bloom but often I just cut rosemary and mint, which gives the most delicious scent. Or the succulents that grow in my courtyard are perfect to create a more sculptural floral look, failing that, a large pile of lemons on my raised platter Β adds a colourful centre piece.

TEXTURE - My new vellum collection is a great way to mix a little serenity into my colourful bubbles. Below I’ve layered our large dinner plate over a shell edged mat and under our blue bubble medium plate. And then topped with our striped linen napkins. Dots of marigolds and lemons adds a bright touch of summer.

Mixing patterns such as spots (bubbles) and stripes (tie-dye) and then adding textural notes in the napkin rings or the place mat gives a wonderful summer feeling. I collect table mats and we did a wonderful collaboration with Mmaa Social. However they proved so popular they sold out at our House & Garden Spring Fair, But rest assured we will be doing more.

I love the work that Mmaa Social does. Working with female collectives in Africa , each bag or basket purchased supports the weavers and their community. Β This Rita basket is handwoven and comes this natural and navy or yellow.

Collagerie’s collaboration with Zara Home is a gorgeous mix of earthy homeware from linens, cushions and tableware as well as this very cool stool/side table.

The French pool accessory brand, the Nice Fleet aren’t just about the chicest inflatables. But sell the coolest accessories too. This orange slice fan is perfect for hot summer nights.

Love woven placemats and these looped natural mats from Cotswold’s boutique Cutter Brooks are the same as my navy ones in Ibiza and are currently on sale.

My new sunscreen obsession from US brand Super Goop is their Unseen Sunscreen. Formulated with red algae, this sunscreen helps to hydrate the skin and protect against all visible light. It also contains frankincense to soothe the skin, while a complex derived from meadowfoam oil works to boost the skin’s moisture levels to help provide a more even skin texture. It feels super silky when applied and has a non shiny gel texture, which feels fantastic.
